About Allergies

Australian Labradoodle Puppies
Apricot Australian Labradoodle

Australian Labradoodles are specially bred for their unique qualities of very importantly, having low to no shedding type coats. Their coat type lends itself to be allergy and asthma friendly. Our immediate family deals with both asthma and allergy issues. Speaking from our own experience, we have not been affected by those associated symptoms, having had our Australian Labradoodles live in our home as well as their puppies. It is well-known, however, there is no dog breed that is truly non-allergenic.

Currently it is estimated that 15 to 20 percent of the population is allergic to animals. It is important to understand the major cause of allergic reactions to dogs is indeed not the fur or the hair, but the protein in the dander which is old skin scales that are much smaller in comparison, to dandruff in humans. Also, dog saliva and urine (that dries on a dog's fur) can be sources of dog allergens as well.

Australian Labradoodle - Allergy issues?
Australian Labradoodle Puppies

The Australian Labradoodle is considered a 'low-dander' type breed of dog. If you do have such allergy-related health issues confirmed or you suspect you may have a dog allergy, be encouraged, because the Australian labradoodle may be considered an option for you. Many people have varied degrees of pet allergies. With that in mind, we encourage folks with allergy and asthma concerns, to visit our Australian Labradoodles when we are between litters to 'test the waters' so to speak and see if indeed they have a reaction to a doodle hug or kiss. Many adults and children find this is a good indicator for them as to their compatibility with this particular breed of dog. Also, since puppy coats are different than adult dogs, you want to be sure you are not allergic to either the coat or saliva so that is a consideration as well.
